Before Zoom RUDELY cut us off last week (I’m too cheap to upgrade to a pro membership), Olivia and I were delving into cortisol, and why the stress hormone is maaaaybe misunderstood.
Some key tidbits of knowledge from this one:
Cortisol actually works for us, not against us, despite popular belief that cortisol and stress should always be suppressed.
It’s very normal — optimal, even — for cortisol to be high early in the day, then decrease as the day progresses.
It works on the same 24-hour cycle in men and women, although men and women have different stressors and triggers for what can spike or drop it.
Food, activity, and sleep can impact cortisol levels, and it’s very circadian, so routines help manage cortisol levels.
Enjoy!
