Thyroid Health and Its Implications

TL;DR: The Thyroid gland is responsible for A LOT.

Today’s discussion with Olivia was more of an info session for me than an actual podcast.

I am not an expert in what the thyroid does — and still might not be — but I learned a lot about it today.

The TLDR is that the gland has a massive responsibility in overall hormone secretion, immune function, and inflammation, so maintaining a good diet can help it work to prevent autoimmune disorders.

Olivia and I tackled the big rocks tackled the thyroid today, including:

  • Why whole foods — and not necessarily supplements — including gluten-free foods, might be best for overall thyroid health

  • Why protein (surprise, surprise — recurring theme in this newsletter) helps with this

  • Where water and hydration fits into the equation (spoiler: it’s WAY more important than you think)

  • What lab tests to ask for when looking at the full scope of your thyroid health

One recurring theme Olivia and I noticed offline is that doctor’s offices don’t always screen for the lab results we need to have a complete understanding of health.

Some labs are as simple as asking for them, but if your doctor can’t or won’t give you a full lab reading or comprehensive metabolic test, it might be time to find a more functional practitioner.

Speaking of lab tests…
